His ALL is in our SmALL

Of all the Minor Prophets, the book of Zechariah is the most Messianic, so it’s not surprising that it is a book overflowing with hope. And in chapter 4, a powerful verse provides an exciting glimpse at how God views even the smallest things we do.

The Word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah, saying, “Who has despised the day of small things?” (4:10).

The temple being rebuilt after the Babylonian captivity wasn’t as grand and spectacular and beautiful as the one that had been destroyed, and Zechariah was encouraging a small group of people to finish it amidst the despair and discouragement and even apathy some of them were experiencing.

But beautiful and bigger aren’t always better; the small things matter to God. When he’s involved, giants are slain by small things.

No work is small in the kingdom of God because God’s all is in our small. And God doesn’t do small! And wherever we find ourselves today, there will be people who need a small kindness.  A small whiff of God’s fragrance.  Small, seemingly insignificant acts of kindness and encouraging words are not small. We might feel insignificant or ordinary, but that doesn’t mean we are. And we might feel that the "small things" we are entrusted to do are only small things. But they're not. His all is in our small.

As we go out in the world today, we are left with a reminder in Zechariah 4:6 that it’s “not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the LORD Almighty, a reminder, once more, that we can go do what we were made to do because God is in charge of the results.

His all is in our small.
